Welcome to this site
which shows-off the capabilities of a "big
$35 Raspberry Pi computer" (
pictured on the left ).
This Raspberry Pi runs an app that allows registered neighbors to pick fresh inventory on-vine on-line from my vegetable garden. It tracks the inventory in a database and emails pick-orders for prompt delivery. Just like the big boys hosting the World Wide Web, it's using the same software known as LAMP. In other words, this is not a little Mickey Mouse system, this is a real big deal ! What I also like about the Raspberry Pi is that it uses less electricity than a night-light ( about 3 watts ). It runs here 24 hours a day, makes no noise, generates no heat, and cost about 25 cents of electricity a month to operate. On top of that, it's running on my home Internet with no additional cost. When you add 25 cents to the cost of LAMP ( $0 ), that makes this a mighty fine real big deal !! Of course, Raspberry Pi does not have enough "horse power" to serve loads of people on the World Wide Web. On the other hand, it works just dandily for us in our neighborhood. And since the Pi is capable of doing this, imagine how much bang-for-your-buck you could get with a $350 computer. For any person, community, or small business wanting to host their own web app, this technology makes it affordable like never before. If you would like more information about how this could work for you, please stop by the garden or email Bruno at this site. I'll be happy to share a slice of this little "big Pi". |
